THE BANDS OF DECATUR

A celebrated organization devoted to musical excellence, personal growth for students, and representing our community with pride.

Join the Beacon Hill Middle School Band!

Quick Facts and Overview of the Beacon Hill Band program

  • The Beacon Hill Band program is open to any rising 6th,7th, or 8th grade Beacon Hill Middle School student. The Band classes are a part of the Connections course offerings; however, Band is a year-long course that does not change at the 18 week period.
  • Any student starting the Band program does not have to have prior knowledge of reading music or performing on a musical instrument.
  • You do not need to choose your instrument until after we start classes next year. Students without prior experience on a Band instrument, are encouraged to keep an open mind about what instrument they wish to play.
  • Instruments in the Band include: Woodwinds (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Bassoon) Brass (Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba!) and Percussion (all percussion instruments keyboard, membrane, and auxiliary).
  • An Instrument tryout period begins the first day of school for all beginning Band students. This is to help students make informed decisions about the instrument they will be the most successful playing and also to help discover any hidden talents they may have on an instrument not normally considered.
  • A Beginning Band Parent meeting will be held within the first three weeks of school to provide information about local instruments rental/purchase options, supplies, grading, and other facts about the RMS Band program.
  • Questions about the Beacon Hill Band Program are welcomed and expected. Please do not hesitate to contact Christine Kraemer, Band Director Beacon Hill Middle School: ckraemer@csdecatur.net
